About the Bank

MadnessBank is an institution built upon the belief that original madness represents a substantial and historically underrecognised creative resource. Our purpose is to identify that resource, establish a formal method of valuation and provide the banking facilities necessary for its economic use.

The institution combines the assessment and preservation of original work with customer accounts, recorded currency, certificates, a dedicated Stock Market and a public Museum of Madness. Each service is part of a larger undertaking: establishing madness as a recognised form of value, supported by its own records, standards and financial administration.

An unbanked resource.

For centuries, financial institutions have concerned themselves with gold, property, securities and debt, while one of humanity's most extraordinary resources has remained almost entirely unbanked: madness.

MadnessBank exists because an enormous part of human creativity has never had a financial institution dedicated to its recognition. The conventional banking system has developed elaborate methods for evaluating property, commodities, businesses and countless other assets, yet original madness has remained almost entirely outside the world of formal valuation. We intend to change that by providing madness with its own banking infrastructure, its own currency, its own marketplace and its own official records. It is an ambitious undertaking, but we consider the importance of the resource sufficient justification for the institution.
